Lesson 6
The Discipline of Listening for God: Hearing His Whisper
Listening for God requires intentionality and patience, as His voice often comes in soft whispers rather than grand displays. Drawing from the story of Samuel, who learned to recognize God’s call, this discipline teaches us to be attentive to God’s subtle nudges. Listening well involves slowing down, engaging in silence and solitude, and becoming more aware of His presence. We can recognize God’s voice through Scripture, mature believers, and moments of quiet reflection. Just as Elijah found God in a gentle whisper, we too must cultivate an ear for His soft promptings. Responding to these nudges, whether through acts of kindness or words of encouragement, draws us closer to God and makes His voice clearer over time. Even when we don’t get it right, the effort to listen deepens our relationship with Him and nurtures our soul.
